From The Principal's Office

Thank you for taking the time to visit the Marietta Middle School Web site. Our site should serve as a helpful tool for you to gain information about our school and handbook. You can also find general contact information on these pages.

Last year we made major changes to schedules and programs. This year we are putting our efforts toward working even smarter to make better use of those changes.

Here are two examples:

Professional Learning Communities - We are continually developing our PLCs to focus on student learning. This year the changes are subtle, but hopefully will yield a big impact on achievement. We will still meet daily in teams or subject area pairs. We also will meet during our Late Arrival days. On Late Arrival days we will meet as a Building PLC and conduct staff meetings in the morning. Students are not to be on campus until after 8:20 on Late Arrival days. Late Arrival days are paced just like a one hour delay schedule. First period begins at 8:50am.

No Zero Zone - NZZ is back again. This is a special program that has the potential to have a lasting impact on student achievement. The NZZ is designed to reduce the potential gaps in a student's education due to not doing homework or not completing assignments. If students fail to complete their homework or assignments we are going to contact the parents that day to inform them that their children will be staying for the NZZ period to complete their homework or assignments. NZZ will conclude at approximately 2:55 p.m. For students who regularly ride the bus, a bus ride to the appropriate neighborhood elementary school will be provided.

If you are returning to MMS, we have a number of new faces in the building. We also have some familiar faces in new roles. All of this change has been exciting for our staff as we begin the 2009 school year.

Sincerely,

William Hampton
Principal
MMS

Marietta Middle School offers a wide range of activities for students. Students are encouraged to become involved not only for their own satisfaction but also for the benefit of the entire school. New activities, clubs or organizations may be initiated if there is sufficient student interest and if an adult sponsor is available.
Current clubs include: Builders Club - sponsored by the Marietta Kiwanis, this club provides a means to develop leadership and community service to students in grades six through eight.
