Marietta City School District has added Jordan Moore in the role of English Language Learner (ELL) instructor. Moore who is a native of Belpre Ohio, graduated from Belpre High School in 2003. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Languages and International Studies at Ballarmine University and then received her Master’s Degree in Spanish from Ohio University.
After school, Moore spent two years in Spain teaching English at the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha before returning to the area to teach Spanish at Parkersburg High School for five years.
Moore discussed how positive the adjustment period has been for her new role in a new system. “The past two weeks have been great! I’ve really enjoyed meeting the staff and students at Marietta.”
According to Alison Woods, Director of Student Services for Marietta City Schools, This is the first year Marietta City Schools has had a full-time ELL teacher.
“Our population of students requiring support by an ELL teacher has continued to grow over the past few years and as a district, we felt that it was an important position to support our students and teachers.”
Marietta City School District currently has students who are native speakers of Arabic, Bengali, Cebuano, Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog, Visayan, and Vietnamese.
Moore will be working with students at every level of the district, all of whom have varying levels of experience with speaking English. “I am looking forward to working one-on-one with students this year ranging from kindergarten through high school. I am excited to be a part of my students’ learning and growth!”
